CHINA FOLK AT TOP OF LIST
MISSION TO GET MORE TO JOIN MM2H PROGRAMME

SHANGHAI: Chinese nationals still rank at the top for participation in the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Programme. Since 1996, the programme has attracted 2,051 Chinese. More than 9,200 foreigners from countries including China, Britain, South Korea, Bangladesh and Japan have participated in the programme, known as the Silver Hair Programme then.
Deputy Tourism Minster Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai said the programme, aimed at boosting the property market and attract foreign investors, hoped to attract 2,000 to 3,000 foreigners a year.
He said China was still considered one of the biggest markets for the programme as its population accounted for 20% of the world’s population.
‘Its economy is also growing rapidly and people, especially those from the eastern part of the country, are some of the wealthiest whom we would like to attract,’ he said during a sales mission to eastern China here.
On the Wenzhou people, who are regarded as the smartest businessmen in China, Lim said the ministry would discuss with Malaysian real estate on how to attract them to invest. ‘We will consider introducing some travel packages which include the viewing of properties in Malaysia and participate in MM2H programme,’ he said.
